I currently work at an education company, supporting thousands of teachers across the country with a deep focus on writing skills and the development of language. I have also served as an Academic Advisor at a major East Coast university, and as a high school and middle school English teacher. Additionally, I have a Bachelors in Journalism, with a specialty in magazine editing. Over the course of my career, I have edited thousands of students' papers, theses, college admissions essays, press releases, short stories, e-mail correspondences, newsletters, biographies, and more.I am a proud grammar snob, and the type of person who notices (and, yes, often points out) errors on menus, pamphlets, advertisements, posters, and more. My friends know I'll kindly correct their grammar if necessary, but in a loving way. After all, proper grammar, correct spelling, an authoritative voice - all the things that make great writing - improve your credibility, your brand, and your authority. I would love to help add this to your writing, and you will find my service to be prompt and effective. In my 'real' life, I love all things pop culture, especially sports, theater, television, comedy, and music. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

It doesn't matter if it's a children's bedtime story or a technical paper knee-deep in jargon; I can make it better. I have a reverent understanding of the importance of language in written and oral communication. I love to make communication as effective as possible through the use of carefully chosen and crafted words. I have an eye for detail, whether it's catching mistakes or practicing standard revision. With experience in both technical and creative writing, I offer the comprehensive editor package, so let's get started.
After earning my Honors Bachelor of Arts in English, cum laude, I obtained a certificate from the Denver Publishing Institute and a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. I've always been a careful tutor for my peers, and I spent my undergraduate career honing my editing skills as a newspaper copy editor (and a couple semesters in grad school working as a blog editor). Working for a periodical publication has meant that I've learned to be meticulous and professional in my editing and to get copy edited on a tight schedule. In addition to newspaper and blog work, I've also edited book manuscripts, including children's fiction, poetry, and narrative nonfiction--and my training at the publishing institute has served me well in these more literary pieces. I've worked with a wide range of types of writing, and the material I've worked with has been for a wide range of audiences. I've edited academic papers, short fiction and nonfiction, magazine and newspaper articles, and the occasional business correspondence. I've also had experience working with writers for whom English is not their primary language, and I understand Spanish sufficiently to translate. As a student of literature, I've studied poetry and prose in depth. I'm eager to apply my critical understanding of literature to new works and gain experience editing new genres and styles.
