I have over thirty years of experience as an editor (books, book chapters, scientific journal articles, theses, dissertations, grants, popular writing) and writer (chapters, scientific journal articles, grants, nonfiction and fiction). Nonfiction prize winner in Lit. mag. contests, finalist in Lit. mag. fiction contest. My goal is to help writers produce a manuscript that expresses their message best in a voice appropriate to their intended audience. I ensure that their material exhibits correct grammar and syntax and adheres to the style required: Concise and descriptive for academic articles, chapters, or books and dramatic for popular writing.
I have enjoyed working with authors and editing their texts since 1982—a span of 38 years and counting.
I had the good fortune to spend 15 years writing and editing in Japan and working with many ESL writers.
Now in the United States, I have worked on behalf of every type of writer: academic, scientific, finance, student, journalist, creative writer, and others.
For all projects, I follow my clients’ specifications and meet all deadlines. I return an edited copy with all changes clearly indicated (i.e., tracked changes in red) and provide numerous comments and suggestions. I also follow up promptly on all e-mail messages to resolve any pending issues. My availability is seven days a week to meet my clients' needs. I live in the Eastern Time Zone (North Carolina) and typically start my day at 6:00 a.m. and then edit until the day's work is done. I look forward to working with you and thank you for entrusting your documents to me.
Studied philosophy at the undergraduate level in Canada and at the graduate level in England. In 1977, I qualified as a secondary school teacher from the Cambridge Institute of Education, Cambridge University. During the 1980s I was a contributing editor for Today's Parent, Canada's leading parenting magazine, and I have published numerous articles, reviews and letters, including two short letters in The Economist, the next best thing to winning a Pulitzer. Now semi-retired, I spend some of my time teaching Microsoft Word to seniors, most of whom are younger than me.
