I enjoy working with authors and editing their texts. I've been doing this since 1982.
From 1982 to 1997, I was writing and editing in Japan where I worked with many ESL writers.
After I returned to the United States in 1997, I began working with every type of writer: academic, scientific, financial, student, journalist, creative writer, and others.
On all projects, I follow my clients’ specifications and meet all deadlines.
I return an edited copy with all changes clearly indicated (tracked changes are in red).
I also provide numerous comments and suggestions. I then follow up promptly on all e-mail messages to resolve any pending issues.
The free edit option is always on, so you can see what I can do and I can see what you need to do.
My availability is seven days a week. I live in the Eastern Time Zone (North Carolina) and typically start my day at 6:00 a.m. and then edit until the day's work is done. I look forward to working with you.
Studied philosophy at the undergraduate level in Canada and at the graduate level in England. In 1977, I qualified as a secondary school teacher from the Cambridge Institute of Education, Cambridge University. During the 1980s I was a contributing editor for Today's Parent, Canada's leading parenting magazine, and I have published numerous articles, reviews and letters, including two short letters in The Economist, the next best thing to winning a Pulitzer. Now semi-retired, I spend some of my time teaching Microsoft Word to seniors, most of whom are younger than me.

Let me, an award-winning BA in Journalism, make the power of the written word work for you! I have edited more than 1.5 million words, and counting, for clients across the United States and throughout the world (from college papers--including theses and dissertations--to college application essays, recommendation letters, business letters, municipal documents, professional journal articles, school newsletters, e-mails, and even resumes; in fact, I am a Certified Professional Resume Writer with the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches). I am a creative and effective communications professional with 10 years of experience in the editing/writing field and a proven ability to meet deadlines--I respect your time! I am noted for my strong skills in English grammar/punctuation usage, voice, tense, spelling, flow, sentence structure, clarity, and consistency as well as Chicago, APA, AP, MLA, CSE, Turabian, Harvard, and other style manuals you request be followed. My goal is to make your writing sharper while helping you to maintain your voice; I work very hard to make sure that I understand the message that you are attempting to communicate in writing. My passionate sense of accuracy; organization; attention to detail; and familiarity with Microsoft Word are second to none. I can't wait to make your document beam of professionalism and feature an impressive flare that will help you to achieve your goal!
Happy to do a free sample edit.
Some examples of recently completed work: (1) an economics article for publication, (2) a nonfiction novel about leadership for small business owners, and (3) a fiction novel about mermaids.
When editing a given work, I take both copyediting and proofreading into consideration. My expertise is US English, but I can work in UK English as well. I am well versed in CMOS, MLA, and APA. Alternatively, I can follow an in-house style guide as long as you provide it (or a link to it). I have working knowledge of AP Style. I follow the "Five Cs" when editing and will always strive to make your work as clear, correct, concise, comprehensible, and consistent as possible.
My aim is to enhance your writing in order to capture your target audience's attention. I take my work very seriously and put my all into producing a high-quality end product. I read, write, and edit material every day and look forward to any opportunity I get to help others.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Happy writing!
